The Hermitage Museum was founded in 1764 when Catherine the Great purchased a collection of 255 paintings from Berlin. Today of course it has closer to 3 million exhibits. The Madonna and Child with Flowers by Leonardo da Vinci is but one of the many famous artworks on display.
